A Common Ground
Installation (2018)
Tate Britain, London.
A Common Ground transformed Tate Britain’s front lawns into a working garden for the stomach, soul and society. Installations was for people to come together around food and conversation through a greenhouse for small dinners, an open sided kitchen for cooking tutorials and tables with foundations in the middle made from vegetable soap that flowed with water when people spoke.
The project ran from June to November 2018 and involved local people in the running of the space. Within the garden and wider gallery Something & Son team members Abdul Elias and Hazel Durrant curated a series of events and provided a platform for London’s diverse food cultures including an Ital (food often celebrated by those in the Rastafari movement) workshop and a large Iftar (the evening meal with which Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset) gathering. Something & Son lead a series of collaborations with Common Works, the Restoration Station, the TATE Britain team and a host of others including Jahson Peat, Abbas Zahedi, Hassan Vawad and Abdul Maalik Tailor.
