Makerversity
Permanent project (2013-…)
Somerset House
London, UK

Makerversity began when there was were an opportunity of taking over 2000 sq m of disused and derelict space in the lower floors of Somerset House. Frustrated by the lack of space for makers in an increasingly Disneyfied, the idea for Makerversity was born. By early 2014 after 9 months of hard work and industrial quantities of paint, an unloved basement was transformed into a vibrant creative home for a diverse range of over 360 makers.

Somerset House have been a key supporter of Makerversity since we began in 2013. Somerset House Trust has generously supported Makerversity, which has enabled us to operate an affordable workspace for the most exciting emerging practices in the heart of central London. Makerversity is now the largest resident of Somerset House Studios, a major new cross-disciplinary workspace championing collaboration and experimentation in the centre of London. We work together with Somerset House across programming and support activities, exploring new ways of supporting changing creative practices.
